Satarupa-First woman on Earth

In Hinduism, multiple theories exist about creation. It is also believed that Brahma created life form on Earth.

Satarupa was not only the first woman to take birth but also she was the daughter of Lord Brahma.

According to the Brahma Purana, when Brahma created the universe, he split his body in two and is believed to have created a mandate called ‘Swayambhuva Manu‘ and a woman named ‘Satarupa.’ The Shiva Purana also tells the same, “In order to begin the process of procreation, Brahma becomes a wonderful man in one half and a woman in the other.”

Swayambhuva Manu as depicted in a painting.

Humans are descended from Manu. That is the reason they are known as ‘manushya’ or ‘manava.’

Satarupa had 5 children. (In frame~Priyavrata)

Did you know ?

Brahma once had five heads

When Brahma created Satarupa, Brahma followed her wherever she went. To avoid Brahma following her, Satarupa then moved in various directions. In whichever direction she went, Brahma developed another head until he had four. However a fifth head appeared and this is how Brahma developed five heads. At this moment Lord Shiva came and cut off the top head of Brahma as it is misdeed and incestuous of Brahma to become obsessed with her (as Satarupa was his daughter).

Since then Brahma has been reciting the four Vedas, one from every mouth in remorse.
